GRANT PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION

General Information

Meetings
PTA meetings are once a month, usually the third Wednesday. Free child care is provided so that all parents can attend and participate; voluntary donations are accepted.

The Executive Board of the PTA usually meets two weeks before the general meeting to develop the agenda and to discuss items of business in order to make recommendations to the membership at the general meeting. The Executive Board does not have the authority to make final decisions. All parents are welcome at Executive Board Meetings.

Membership
There is a $7.50 membership fee for the Grant PTA. Of that, $3.70 stays at Grant,$.30 goes to the Santa Monica-Malibu Council PTA, $.50 to the 33rd District PTA, $1.25 to the State PTA, and $1.75 to the National PTA. Additional tax-deductible donations above basic dues are truly appreciated.

Volunteers
We welcome parents and community volunteers in the classroom to assist the teacher. Volunteers are also needed in the library, office, computer lab, garden, cafeteria, on the playground at lunch, and to help the nurse with her yearly medical checkups.

Volunteers need only a desire to help the children and teachers. Formal training is not needed. State law does require volunteers on campus to have a volunteer application and a record of a current Mantoux TB skin test on file in the office. Contact your student's teacher if you are interested in volunteering on campus. Free TB tests are offered in the Nurses's office with an appointment. All volunteers must sign in at the office and wear a volunteer badge while at school.

Monster Mash
The Monster Mash is a frightfully fabulous family event which takes place on or near Halloween. Refreshments, a costume parade, cake decorationg, dancing to a D.J., a bake sale, and the traditional teacher raffle make this party a monstrous success.

Book Fair
Grant's Book Fair in the Spring brings a wide variety of children's books right to Grant. Each class has an opportunity to browse at the Book Fair, and we encourage parents to shop for books at Grant. The PTA receives 25% of all purchases. Books make great gifts!

Library Birthday Books
Celebrating a child's birthday is an important event. It has been a tradition at Grant to recognize your child on his/her birthday by purchasing a book for the library in his/her name. The books are purchased through the librarian.

The Halloween Carnival
The Halloween Carnival is a wonderful event that provides Grant families with an afternoon of fun, featuring games, rides, food, and prizes. A cake decorating contest, the Booster Club's Silent Auction, and the Teacher's Raffle are a traditional parts of the fun. Please mark your calendars and plan to be there. We always need plenty of volunteers to provide the children with this afternoon of fun.

Fiesta de Mayo Carnival and Silent Auction
The Fiesta de Mayo is a wonderful event held in May that provides Grant families with an afternoon of fun, featuring games, rides, food, prizes and exciting shopping at the Silent Auction. Please mark your calendars and plan to be there. We always need plenty of volunteers to provide the children with this afternoon of fun.

Friday Popcorn
Popcorn is sold nearly every Friday in the PTA kitchen at the end of the school day. The cost is 25¢ per bag.
